Check Latest Price on AmazonWhich One Should You Choose?
If budget is tight → choose the iMBAPrice 50' Cat5e White (B00IPQTGXI) for the best value on longer runs. If you need short, dependable patch cables behind a TV or console → InstallerParts Cat5E 6 ft (B09HL6RMR2) is ideal for tidy connections and reliable 1 Gbps service. If you’re wiring long distances (basement to media room) → the iMBAPrice 100 ft Cat5e (B01N0NLLQ9) handles extended runs while keeping cost reasonable. If your AV system uses HDMI sources and you want a single cable solution for audio, video and an Ethernet channel → consider the C&E 60 ft HDMI with Ethernet (B01HJWDOMW), but remember it’s an HDMI cable with an Ethernet channel, not a replacement for a network backbone.
Best for Specific Scenarios
- Holiday movie night with multiple streamers: InstallerParts Cat5E 6 ft because short, solid patch cables behind each TV keep connections stable and minimize signal loss.
- Running cable to a backyard guest room: iMBAPrice 100 ft Cat5e because the extra length lets you reach distant outlets without chaining patch cords.
- Simplified AV setup between TV and receiver: C&E 60 ft HDMI w/ Ethernet because it carries audio, video and an Ethernet channel in one shielded cable, reducing cable clutter for a single‑device streaming stick or Blu‑ray player.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Cat6 for holiday streaming?
Not usually. For streaming 4K and typical home internet speeds, Cat5e provides stable 1 Gbps performance. Choose Cat6 if you want extra headroom for multi‑gig local networks or future‑proofing, but Cat5e is fine for most holiday movie marathons.
Can an HDMI cable with Ethernet replace a wired network?
No. HDMI with Ethernet carries an Ethernet channel for compatible HDMI devices, but it doesn’t replace a dedicated network cable for routing internet to multiple devices or for whole‑home networking. Use HDMI with Ethernet only when the streaming source and display both support that feature and you want a single‑cable AV path.
How long can an Ethernet patch cable be before it affects streaming?
Ethernet signaling remains reliable up to 100 meters (about 328 ft) for Cat5e/Cat6, but practical issues like cable management and signal degradation on thin gauge wire can appear much sooner. For patch connections keep cables as short as practical and use higher quality or thicker gauge cables for long permanent runs.
